Travel and Covid in India

Read here the latest travel advice on travel and corona, travel restrictions, possible entry ban and quarantine measures in India.

December 2020
International flights are suspended until December 31, borders are yet to be opened and Covid-19 precautions are strictly followed.

The states of Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are now allowing visitors from other states without a COVID-19 negative report or mandatory quarantine.

Hotels and homestays are operating again, with strict health protocols in place. Flights to major destinations in India are back and most tourist attractions are or will reopen.

Domestic flying is back but medical checks are being conducted at airports. If symptoms of the coronavirus are detected, the traveler is mandatorily admitted to a local hospital for a 14-day quarantine period.

The northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim have decided that foreign travelers should not enter these states for the time being.

Current situation in India during Covid Times

We are in contact with our local agents regularly, and of course we keep getting updates from them occasionally.

Although the number of infections remained relatively low for a long time, India did not escape the coronavirus either. In a country of nearly 1.4 billion people, it seems almost impossible to stop the spread of Covid-19, but the rules are strictly enforced. The country is divided into color zones: 'Red, Orange and Green'. The green areas that have not experienced any new infections in the past 14 or 28 days can count on a relaxation of measures. Here, normal life resumes: stores are open, public transport is possible again. The general guidelines remain in force: wearing a mouth mask in public places, social distancing and hygiene rules (washing hands).

News from India
- The Taj Mahal will be allowed to welcome tourists again from September 21, after being closed for six months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Every day, 5,000 people are allowed to go and see the 'most beautiful building in India' up close again. In the morning and afternoon, 2,500 people will be admitted each time. Of course, distance and hygiene rules will be strictly applied and mouth masks are mandatory.
- Due to the National Lockdown, air pollution levels have not been this low in the last 20 years(!!). As a result, famous landmarks in major cities can suddenly be seen in clear skies. Residents of the northern state of Punjab are also seeing the surrounding Himalayas from their homes for the first time in a long time.

Below is a representation of the current situation according to our latest reports:
