Bhutan's best kept secret
One of the highlights of a visit to Bhutan is experiencing a festival. If possible, we encourage you to experience one of the cozy, small village festivals. These are not the larger tsechu programs, such as those organized by the monasteries, but local festivals organized by the villages themselves. In terms of content the festivals differences not so much with the religious festivals. They are mostly smaller and less known to travel agencies. Because of this there are a lot more villagers than tourists.
During a festival, masked dances are performed by the monks, in which stories are told about the life of Guru Rinpoche. From the surrounding area, the local people come to the part. Attending a festival is not only good for the karma, it is also an important social event.
